Common Sense Solutions to All Your Legal Needs

John J. Urban's father was a staunch believer in the power of education. With over forty years service for US Steel, his goal was to make sure John went to college, established himself with a professional career, and avoided the mill. During the summer while all John's friends held down summer jobs paying good money at the steel plant, John worked for only $4.00 an hour cutting grass for the County Parks. John earned his undergraduate degree at John Carroll University and his law degree at Cleveland Marshall Law School. He then opened his own practice in 1975 in fulfillment of his father's dreams. We met with John recently, and listened as he outlined his services and his common sense approach to law;

As an Attorney, I limit my practice to specific areas, such as probate, wills, trusts, guardianships, small business law, Medicaid law, and elder law. I'm certified by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and as a result of being part of their legal network, my practice gives substantial discounts to all AARP members.

Upon first meeting a perspective client, I take the time to thoroughly review their unique situation. I draw diagrams for them illustrating what they presently have, where they want to go, and the best way for them to accomplish their objectives. I review their circumstances to determine all their options, and strive to find the best approach according to their needs. For example, many legal firms recommend that everyone have a living trust, and while living trusts can be very beneficial instruments, often times a client's needs may be best met with a simple will. It doesn't seem practical to me for a client to spend $2,000.00 to have me set up a living trust when a $100.00 will can accomplish their objectives just as well.

Many of my clients are pet owners who are concerned with what will happen to their pets when they die. A lot of my documents now have pet provisions that give the executor of the estate or a designated person the power and ability to ensure the future care of these cherished companions. Surviving family members often don't feel the deceased's money should be spent on their pets, but if it's specified in the legal documents, pet owners can be assured their pets will receive the care they want them to have after they've gone.

As quite a few of my older clients have difficulty coming to my office, I've made it a point to make house calls whenever necessary. I've counseled clients in nursing homes, hospitals, or wherever I need to go to provide them with competent legal representation. I've been fortunate to have my legal assistant/secretary Dorian with me for the past eighteen years. Dorian's expertise and background enable her to confidently answer many clients' questions while alleviating their concerns.
